Do you have to use the Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter to get Xbox Live?

Are you able to use a normal D-Link or Netgear USB receiver to connect to my wireless network or does it only pick up the network if its using the Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter?

There are several ways to connect to XBL but your XBox will not take a connection through a USB port. You can plug directly into your router or modem via CAT5 line. Purchase the wireless adapter. Or you can use your laptop as a wireless adapter by sharing the network via your windows settings.

You have to buy the Xbox 360 adapter ($100), or you can simply go buy a ethernet cable and plug it into your modem. I would suggest the ethernet cable (if possible) because it is a lot cheaper. But that is only if you do not have trouble getting from your modem to your Xbox. :)
