@j25vargas yes when you log into your godaddy account you will go into domain manager. select the appropriate domain name then you will see a place call domain forwarding. now highlight you ning sub-domain and copy it. when you do that paste it in the box that shows to forward domains and paste. you can also have 99 sub-domains to yours website like ning.yoursite (.) com

    I have been very …
I have been very interested in creating a social networking site for some time now. I started one on ning.com and am very happy with it. It has a very basic look but thats the way i want it. I dont want to make a myspace or facebook, these sites are pretty much in general discussions. I want my networking site to be focused on a certain subject.
Ning.com has the option to use my own domain name for $4.95/mth and godaddy.com sells the domain name for $10.67/yr. Would this work?

    and you must know …
and you must know that you never can say “I finish my site”, if you say that… it’s really FINISH.

That’s true. Who wants to finish it anyway? Developing is fun. I started my site three weeks ago. It’s called “humlesurr”. See the link on my channel.

    I know HTML, PHP, …
I know HTML, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, AJAX, Flash.
On my site all content is JUST MINE, I use Photoshop to draw ALL the graphic, I write codes.
I have Apache, PHP and MySQL on my computer and for one full year I just “preparing” site, and after that I publish it…
    One advice:
If you thinking about making web site, you must know programing, not just know, you must understand it on the right way, and you must know that you never can say “I finish my site”, if you say that… it’s really FINISH.

    The key here is …
The key here is KISS principle. keep it simple… Niche social networks are very hot now. Companies create them to keep tight control on their user base. Why not just create a site using a modular content management system? I use Joomla. It’s not expensive as you might think to set up.

It takes way more time and effort to promote and build your user base. Finding a team of promoters will help here, or outsourcing some VA’s.

All do-able… Don’t be discouraged. Go for it!

    Why not just create …
Why not just create use content management system website in Joomla or Drupal? Come see me… I’ll tell you what to do. It’s not that expensive to set up. It takes more time and effort to promote and build the user base.

    IF you were serious …
IF you were serious about this, get a website designer, learn xHTML, PHP, mySQL and maybe some Javascript for the website. If you are a beginner, use FireWorks to slice and code your website then add functionality. Use Genie, Notepad++ or other software for PHP devving. Also, as you said about the prices, some people overprice it alot. I dont charge that much for a website, it isnt that hard.

  17. sonnytrujillo Says:

    The best place you …
The best place you can start is learning PHP/Mysql. Work on learning the conventions, then once you got that down start making a simple 3 page website on logging in and logging out. After that start thinking about little steps, like mail. How can i have one user add a message to a database and let another user access that. simple question and just work your way, that how i did it, i worked for about a year on my social network and still am, message me if you need help :-)
