RepublicNetworks.com | What is a Network Switch and what does it do?
This is the third part of our on-going module of network connected devices. This part overviews network switches and what functions and roles they may play in a network structure. Network switches are intelligent devices in that they direct data flows to the appropriate devices on your network once they have learned what devices are connected to the switches’ physical ports. We advise to watch this series in order that way your information builds on prior information.

Yes, you can do it …
Yes, you can do it this way. Actually it is recomended – if you have 2 routers – to turn off routers functionality on the 2nd one, and use it as a switch. hi there, you seem …
hi there, you seem to know a bit about networking, i was wondering for my home network is it possible to connect a switch to another switch so for example if one switch was in one room and one was in another. and would the PC’s connected off switch 1 be able to communicate with the PC’s off switch 2?. i tried doing this with 2 routers but my PC’s didnt pick up the other PC’s on the second router even though all of the PC’s were on the internet. cheers.

Your question is …
Your question is unclear. As I see it you have 1 PC, 1 laptop, 1 IP phone unit. And I assume that you want to have all of them connected simultaneity to Internet. Well easiest way to do so is 4 port router which you connect through port WAN to the DSL/cable modem and ports 1 to 4 use for those devices.
