Wireless home networking with router?

Posted on February 9th, 2010 by admin in networking router | 3 Comments »

I have a D-link Dir-635 wireless router, connected to a cable modem and a pc with wire. I have a notebook connecting to the router through wireless adapter. The router assigns the IPs for the pc and the notebook through DHCP server.
I want to create a network between the pc and the laptop, so that they can "see" each other, I can exchange files from one another, etc.
Can anyone tell me how I should do that?

What exactly is needed to be done?

Your networking part is done. The rest is just sharing folders on your computers.

Right Click on the folder you want to share
Left Click on Properties
Left click on the sharing tab
Follow the prompts.

After creating your shares, from the other computer you can find the computer with shares by looking in "Network Neighborhood" or "My Network Places".

Your PC and laptop are connected to network, just ensure both laptop and PC can ping each other without firewall blocking. After that you just need to enable file sharing to share files:
