Before the Internet: Online (was very purposeful
This is a mediawatch broadcast of the work I was doing in the early 90’s in using Bulletin Board System (BBS) technology for helping people. This was pre-internet world. It was fun then, learning and networking. Today we now have “Social networking” in the Web 2.0 era. How time have not change!!

1:28 – 1:42 was a new BBS technology called RIP Script, it really was amazing for it’s run, it required specialized terminal software such as Ripterm or a compatible terminal in order to view, but it was all point and click which really was amazing for it’s times especially for BBS systems. It had a short life span, however in the 90’s BBS software such as Excalibur and Worldgroup really revolutionized BBSing bringing near AOL quality interfaces to the BBS user [client side].

The internet is 40 years old, but this is not the internet. This is a network of BBSs that this guy runs out of his house, all connected by people dialing into them via modem. These networks were really big in the 80’s and part of the 90’s too I think, but most of them were separate from the internet.
