Hey all. I am based in the UK, just so you know

I was just wondering, those of you who are into computing and networking etc… Where do you buy your networking materials, ie. cable trunking (most important), network cables, etc…

Also, what other websites would you suggest to get the cheapest computer based items from, ie. cheap computer hardware and software, ready built computer systems also..

specify your answer in terms of number of ports and the maximum numer of ports available for single network switch…

networking problem please solve…. for switches?

hi. there are 6 switches of 100 mbps & 16 ports are installed at my office. which are connected with each other. before two month ago there were only 3 switches. as we increased the number of switches the networking speed become slow and client database cannot be connect regularly by the server. So we are planing to pruchase one 24 ports 1000 mbps switch which will be connected with server and all the other swithches will be connected with this switch. all the nodes will be connected with other switches. I think this idea will be better but i havenot confirm about it. would u please help me the confirm this idea for increasing networking speed and regularly connection of application database from client to server as we are working only one LAN.

get a websmart switch as the core switch.
probably someone on network is using quite a lot of bandwidth.
Use the QoS function to control the bandwidth by each port/IP

How to learn computer networking fast?

Dear All,
I’m in a such condition willing to learn computer networking really fast.
I’m being given a chance to do some IT jobs.
I know the basic fundamentals of networking but I need to make sure my self is capable enough of holding that responsibility.
Kindly advice or give some links to proceed.
FYI, I’m sick of hitting on the books, so I won’t be comfortable to sutdy books, any other method,,, would be highly appreciated.

What networking topic would yield the most information for a report?

I’m trying to figure out what to write my networking paper on. It needs to be at least 3-5 pages. I understand that a lot of people can stretch topics out but I really want a topic rich in information. Was thinking maybe fiber optic cables as the topic but was unsure if I could even stretch that passed two pages.

If you mean from a computer science point of view, how about the different protocols or something like the evolution of protocols giving just a quick overview of each protocol and then some basic data on maximum transmission speeds, media that protocol is used over, advantages and disadvantages, and so on. That could take up more than 3 pages and be easy to look up on Wikipedia:

I have a Social Networking idea that i would love to develop, however i have no web design or programming experience. One night an idea just popped into my head, and it seems like something people can really benefit from. How can i go about developing my idea? The idea itself is very simple, but very effective, especially into today’s social networking world.

How difficult is it to learn networking or systems administration?

I know very little about computers except the normal use of the average person – internet, word processing, etc. I don’t really have a maths/science type of brain, I am a primary school teacher. However, I want to do a diploma in either networking or systems administration. Being a mature age student I am willing to put in the effort but how difficult is it? Would I be wasting my time with no background in IT, etc?

It’s not about math or science. It’s all about thinking through problems in a logical order. It’s not difficult to start, I would recommend reading a book on Microsoft Server, Cisco CCNA, or Unix. That will give you an idea of how technical you need to be to get into the industry.

Good luck, and if it’s not fun, don’t do it.

Facebook took down regional network so now I’ve no way of my old friends finding me unless they search for my name with like a million other people with that name. I want to just put anything that’s in toronto, the problem is everything needs a stupid network email and I don’t go to school or work anymore. So how can my friends find me?

you can create a username with facebook as in facebook.com/username u can make your own username on account settings

What pays more Computer Networking or Software field in India after an experience of 3-4 years.
(Please dont ask to do what u like or do what ur interested in )Experienced guys in IT comment?

I believe software writers, SQL and Web Design and the programming languages .NET , JAVA, C+, C++ . . .ect will yield the greatest income.
(apologies for my ignorance on this subject, I’m more of a hardware/network person)

But it varies on location, I live in South UK and this is my experience.
