What’s the name of the wireless networking device that I need?

Posted on May 7th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 2 Comments »

I have a wireless router upstairs, and my XBox 360 downstairs. The 360 doesn’t have wireless capabilities, but has a wired network port. I would like to put a "hub like" box that takes the wireless signal and allows wired connections. What is the name of the device I’m looking for?

Its called an ethernet to wireless bridge. Dlink makes one… here’s a link http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=383&#DGL-3420

How to connect to a wireless networking?

Posted on May 4th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 1 Comment »

I have 2 computer .. which is windows XP .. my first computer can connect to a wireless internet connection .. but my second computer can’t because it don’t have any network adapter .. Can I connect to to the internet on the second computer by using my first computer? If you know .. how? Please tell me ..

Hi, Your best solution would be to obtain a network card for your second laptop. These are relatively inexpensive and would allow you to share your router between the two laptops. Most of the major suppliers (Belkin, Linksys, etc.) have such cards available specifically for non-Wi-Fi enabled laptops.

How can I set up security password for my home broadband wireless networking??

Posted on May 2nd, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 1 Comment »

I just set up my SMC home broadband wireless networking on to my desktop with Window Me Millennium Edition. And I try using my laptop to go in to the network and it work, but it didn’t ask for the passwork. Why? That mean other people can go on to my network too, right? So, please help to protect my network. 911
Tell me step by step, thanks.

Just pop open your SMC home broadband wireless modem/router manual and you’ll get the step-by-step guide! You just have to use WPA encryption and disable your SSID broadcast. Its a couple of mouse clicks – simple!

Do you need a disc for an xbox 360 wireless networking adapter?

Posted on April 29th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 3 Comments »

I have just bought a wireless networking adapter (Used) – and was wondering do i need a disc for it?
If not i can’t connect or put any ‘Wireless settings’ on my 360 dashboard as it is not highlightede for me to click it, and the light on the device shows red. Need Help!
I do have the update for the 360.

no

there should be a setting somewhere to set wireless
because 360’s i think are made for weird connections by default.

make sure you have your own router for the xbox to connect to otherwise you can’t do anything.
(the router is the thing that allows laptops to connect to the internet without a cord, and should be on your main computer)

it should be a usb with the microsoft tag on it(the silver tag that is shiny) otherwise it might be a 3rd party adapter. if so then idk

if you have NEVER connected to xboxlive EVER!!!!! (you don’t have an avatar because that came with an update) then you might want to watch this video, because the first time is the most anyoing.

(there is a picture of the wireless adapter)

GOOD LUCK!!!
(yes i know its anyoing)

Networking a Vista Computer with a Windos XP via wireless?

Posted on April 27th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 4 Comments »

I have a wireless network at home with a wireless linksys router that is connected to my main pc using Windows XP, I have a second desktop with a wireless USB device using XP also. Both of these computers are connected to a home network that I have set up and have no problems with file and internet sharing. I recently bought a new laptop that is wireless ready and it came with Windows Vista home edition. I connected to my home network, entered int he security code and the laptop connects fine to my network automatically and goes online fine. The problem I am having is, I cant seem to perform any file sharing with this laptop. When I go into the network section it is only showing the laptop and neither of the 2 desktops using XP which are named differently on the network. This is my first time using Vista so I am wondering if I am missing something. The main desktop has the my docs section set for sharing also.

To share, you need to be on the same workgroup as the other computers. In XP, right click my computer and then click properties, the click the computer name tab and you will know which workgroup your laptop that runs vista should be on so that you can share files and stuff. Do the same in vista except My Computer is just called Computer. You will right click on Computer and click properties, then click workgroup.

How Do i check my computer if it has "wireless networking" (network card)?

Posted on April 25th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 3 Comments »

I need to get a wireless router for my new computer but unsure weather it already has a wireless network card and wireless networking support installed, how do i check so I can decide weather i need to buy a network card aswell as the router or not?

Do i find it in devices from computer properties in control panel?

Hi..

U can go to control panel – system – hardware – device manager.

Click on network adapters.. there the name of the wireless card will be mentioned

or

From control panel – network connection – there u can find an icon ( wireless network connection)

Cheers..,
