Create an Instant Wireless Network with WiPeer by britec.co.uk

http://www.wipeer.com

An interesting new wireless networking software system called WiPeer is now available. WiPeer allows your computer to easily set up and join ad hoc WiFi networks for peer to peer file sharing. WiPeer doesn’t work across the Internet; instead; it connects computers only in close proximity of a few hundred yards or meters with the goal of avoiding wireless access points and simplifying local area networking. Created by researchers at the prestigious Technion in Israel, WiPeer supports Windows XP computers now and will hopefully support other kinds of computers and mobile devices later.

1. Connect to the network, while chosing between wireless (WiFi) and Ethernet, where in the case of wireless, either connecting to an existing access point, or forming a peer-to-peer (also known as ad-hoc) network, in which no infrastructure is involved. It is possible to either join a public network, in which anyone can participate, or create and join private groups.

2. View the other currently connected users, through the “on-line users” tab.

3. Define contact persons and see which of these contatcs is also connected at any given moment, through the “Contacts” tab.

4. Chat either with specific persons, or create and join public chat rooms.

5. Share files either to everyone or to individual users.

6. Searching for documents based on key-words. Only documents that have been exported will be displayed. This capability requires running Google’s desktop search application.

7. Managing your own user profile.

8. Discovering your nearby Facebook friends through the peersonalizer feature.

9. Additional external applications, including games, as appears in the “applications” menu.

Will I still need to buy a Wireless Networking Adapter for my 360?

Posted on May 11th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 2 Comments »

I want to connect my Xbox 360 directly to a wireless modem-router using the Ethernet cable. So even though the connection to the wireless modem-router will be wired will I still need to buy a Wireless Networking Adapter for my 360?

(The wireless modem-router I’m planning on buying is: "Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 switch".)

nope if its wired you dont but if u plan to be wireless yes

how do you reduce home wireless networking errors?

Posted on May 10th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 4 Comments »

On my home wireless network , i`m getting 100`s of errors. Does anyone know why or how to reduce them. Thanks in advance.
The router.adsl modem is a belkin 54g and all i can add is that on the stats page of the modem is tell me the amount of data, and errors associated with the wireless part. There are no other errors to do with the hard wired networked pc`s. just the wireless connection to a laptop.
yes the router is in range….84% signal and constant. no to mac filtering. yes to encryption (wpask) all links use the same code or wouldnt be able to get a link.
the wireless link does work and seems pretty stable but my question was as to why i was getting so many errors only on the wireless link. you might say "why worry if it`s working pretty good" but thats not the point when really there shouldn`t be any errors at all.
sorry ppl, i cant tell you what the errors are, my router doesn`t tell me exactly what they are just the amount. If i knew what they were or what was causing them then i wouldnt be asking. Thanks for trying anyway..

Record the number of errors. Refresh the list of wireless networks your laptop can see — are there many or just your router? Then move your laptop/PC closer to your wireless router. Turn off all cell phones, baby monitors, cordless phones, microwave ovens … did the errors decrease? Login to your wireless router and ensure you are configured for the USA or Europe. The USA uses channels 1-11 while Europe uses channels 1-13 for 802.11b standard with 22 MHz wide signals at 25 MHz spacing. This an option in your wireless router and laptop to select the regional configuration. You did not specify the operating system but if it is Windows then upgrade to SP2 — there are know reset issues with prior software.
