It needs to be at least 3-5 pages. I understand that a lot of people can stretch topics out but I really want a topic rich in information. Was thinking maybe fiber optic cables as the topic but was unsure if I could even stretch that passed two pages.

Any ideas?

Mathematical network analysis of the data flow on the Internet – that should use up over 100 pages.
If you mean from a computer science point of view, how about the different protocols or something like the evolution of protocols giving just a quick overview of each protocol and then some basic data on maximum transmission speeds, media that protocol is used over, advantages and disadvantages, and so on. That could take up more than 3 pages and be easy to look up on Wikipedia:

However, I want to do a diploma in either networking or systems administration. Being a mature age student I am willing to put in the effort but how difficult is it? Would I be wasting my time with no background in IT, etc?

It’s not about math or science. It’s all about thinking through problems in a logical order. It’s not difficult to start, I would recommend reading a book on Microsoft Server, Cisco CCNA, or Unix. That will give you an idea of how technical you need to be to get into the industry.

Good luck, and if it’s not fun, don’t do it.

From India, if you hire an outsource company, expect to pay $8 to 10 per hour.
If you hire an individual from India, expect to pay $4 to $6 per hour.
Expect it to take twice as long and be half as good. I have no experience with IT from China, but I can tell you that if my experience from India IT is any clue, the people that do web design for outsource companies in India get about $4/hr and if they were in America, they would still only be worth $4/hr. (I warned you)

Expect to pay anyone in the USA $2000+ depending on features. This is a "getting started" price for basic Facebook functionality.
Expect that coming close to what you get from Facebook will take a very long time and probably cost over $6000++ when the details are finished.
You could easily pay over $50,000 depending on who you hire and what the project details are.

A+ is a good one to have under your belt in general. You might consider also placing this question in the http://www.certguard.com forums as they have very knowledgable IT pros that can help you. You are right on track with the ones you are planning on getting, a little surprised you are starting with the CCNA though as that is considered more advanced than Sec or Net+. Both.

Hindrance:
No one seems to want to meet in person anymore to talk because there are things such as FB, Skype, MyYearbook, and things such as that.

Advantage:
Easy connection with people that you haven’t talked to in a while. You merely have to type in a person’s name and can typically find them on one of the social networking sites that you frequent, meaning that if you lose someone’s number or address, you can still keep in touch.

Anywho, we wanted to connect two computers to one printer. I heard using a hub would be a good idea but then I heard that it doesn’t work that way. Any ideas?

There is a switch designed for just such an application available at good computer stores. I used one for years quite successuflly.
