Also, what other websites would you suggest to get the cheapest computer based items from, ie. cheap computer hardware and software, ready built computer systems also..

If your only experience is with Windows you’re going to have a hard time since there is a LOT you’re going to have to learn. Of course any professional degree is going to be like that.

You need to set up the printer on a print server.

connect them with the crossover, set the laptop to ICS (Internet Connection Share), then use the home network wizard to have them talk to each other.
