Can a 17 year old get a computer networking job?
My nephew just got a CISCO certification in highschool and I was wondering if he could get a summer job with that in computer networking. Keep in mind he Is 17. He needs the experience so he can see if that’s what he wants to spend his money on in college to get a degree.
If I were an employer, I’d at least give them an interview. Getting certified that early is rare, and demonstrates all kinds of good qualities. If they were decent in the interview, I’d at least consider them for a coop or summer term in a helpdesk or noc role, to at least try them out. I’m not saying employers would hand over the wheel to a CCNA with no experience (regardless of age), but for an entrance support role I don’t see why not.
I would even go so far as to say I’d prefer a 17-year-old CCNA over a 30-year-old CCNA. For the young one, it’s impressive they got so far so fast, and for the old one, I scratch my head at why they didn’t do anything more than an associate-level certification in all those years.
Computer Science and Engineering Distinguished Lecturer: Declarative Networking: “What” is Next
Declarative languages allow programmers to say what they want, without worrying over the details of how to achieve it. These kinds of languages revolutionized data management decades ago but have had limited success in other aspects of computing. The story seems to be changing in recent years, however. One new chapter is work that Joe Hellerstein and his colleagues have been pursuing on the design and implementation of declarative languages and runtime systems for network protocol specification. Distributed Systems and Networking appear to be surprisingly natural domains for declarative specifications and they are ripe for a new programming methodology.

Should I go for the degree or certificate for computer networking?
I am in community college and going for AS in Computer Network Specialist. I am half way done with the degree. There is a certificate called Designing and Installing Network Systems. I am thinking of just doing the computer classes in the degree than switch to the certificate and only have to take Intro to Business and Principles of Management. Your opinion? Etc?
Go with a degree.
If you want to get certifications they are great, however you need real certifications such as CCNA, Net+, MCSE ect. I would run far far away from the certificate called "Designing and Installing Network Systems"

What is a good college for Computer Networking and Security?
I am currently a sophomore in high school and I’m beginning to check out colleges so I can find the right one, but I can’t find one that has what I want. I’m looking for a college that’s good for majoring in Computer Networking/Network Security. Anybody have any suggestions?
Actually, most 4 year colleges won’t offer such a program. They consider it too specific. The type of program you are looking for tends to only be found at community colleges since it is considered more of a "professional" education.
If you still want to go to a 4 year college, you would be better off majoring in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering. You might be able to take one or two computer network classes but probably not the kind you are thinking of. You will probably still need to take professional education after that.
