Router is what routes the data to and from your computer to and from the Internet. Think wireless router. ISP is Internet Service Provider, think Road Runner/AT&T

A networking device to pick up a router and further the signal around the house?

I have a router but the laptops can only find 1 BAR of signal when they are upstairs. What is the device called which finds the router and makes go further. I cannot remember the name for it.

A bridge or range extender. These are usually separate devices, but some models of router can be used in ‘bridge mode’ with the same model or same brand.

You can also try repositioning the router so it is closer to the ceiling, or try a higher gain antenna or antenna extension cable.

Where is a good site/ebook to learn all about home networking and basics for understanding wired/wireless.?

Please link any good places, maybe a free online course on this would be great.

Microsoft and CISCO both have many resources that give you easy to follow step by step instructions.

Please note that if you are connecting to a DSL modem, the modem "Network Connection Type" needs to be changed from "PPPoE" to "Bridged Ethernet", then connect the modem output to the router input

If you get your internet connection via a cable modem, nothing needs to be done, just connect the modem output to the router input.

Lots of Luck

What do i need to do to prepare for a computer networking career?

what classes should i take as an undergrad in collage?
is computer science courses more directed towards computer programmers?
and lastly if i do get my bachelors degree in computer science where do i go from there?

what type of everyday troubles concerning the job as a computer network administrator have everyday?

I would say learning security is really a good thing and can get you in the door at some places which can be difficult in the IT field. There is so much to learn about computers that no one, I don’t think, can know it all. As far as taking classes, I would do my best to make sure the school and curriculum you decide on is current with tools/systems/etc being used in industry; I have seen institutions that use such dated coursework that leaves graduates writing resumes that look all 1995ish. CCNA is awesome! Learning Linux is awesome! Developing your own APPLE jokes is awesome!

Will buying a router separate from my networking modem make connection to online gaming better.?

Posted on January 2nd, 2011 by admin in networking router | 2 Comments »

Im currently getting 30mps on my Networking Modem (4 ports) I was wondering if it would make my connection on online games better if i was to buy and install a 10/100 Router..

I doubt it. If your "networking modem" is a broadband gateway as I believe it is based on your statement, then it already has a firewall built in. If not, that’s probably the most significant advantage of having a router.
