I was just looking at my network configurations, and I wanted to know how I can be sure I’m not allowing my neighbors and/or others to access my computer without my permission. I access the internet via a hardwired connection; however, I also have a wireless connection and router that is hooked up.

There is a place in the network router setup where it asks if you want to use a WEP password to protect the access to your network. Just say yes and put in a password so bizarre that only you will remember it. Then access by others should not worry you. As an alternative you could put in "Use MAC filtering" which requires you to list the MAC address on your computer’s network card so that only a computer with that card address can get into the network. If you are extra worried then use both techniques.

Unless some guy from NSA is rummaging around to wiretap and make sure you are not a terrorist and not donating to the other political party, then no one will be snooping on your network.

I keep getting connected to a wireless network from across the street. The adapter is just like a plug in thing, there is no programs along with it. How do I switch networks?

Find out what is the manufacture of your wireless card. Go to their website to see if there any Client software for your wireless card for Windows98. Mostly, they should have it. Download and install it in your system.

Anyway, have you right click the Network Neighborhood and check for the properties page there? I think it should have some menu for you to change the SSID network in the wireless card connection. It’s a very long time I’m not using Windows98 any longer, so I rather forget where to find the menu. But try to explore it from there.

I was about to get this game for my pc, but my PC that i have in another room has no internet connection to it.
So i need to find a good wireless usb adapter since I already have a wireless g/b linksys router.

If you are going to use it for gaming, take my advice. Either run the Ethernet cable or upgrade to 802.11n. 52MBps is good, but really won’t cut it for gaming (802.11n is 100 or 200MBps).

i already have a router but i need to connect another one to it so that it has its own firewall and network settings but i want to plug an ethernet plug in from the other router so that i can get the internet. is this possible? my router is a Netgear ADSL firewall router. thanks

I have Verizon wireless internet connection. My mom just found out dat a website called New link network charged $12.95 each month and it has been two months, so we have to pay 25.90.
