I hope this came out right. I was just thinking that it’s nothing to hear someone say I met someone or I’m dating someone and they’re talking about online and have never actually met the person face to face.

Yes. I think it’s making people less empathetic and very bad readers of facial expressions and body language.

I have a Xbox 360 and I play Xbox Live a bunch. My connection is terrible. It takes a long time to connect to other players and when I upload accessories from the Xbox Live marketplace it takes hours! Should I get a Wireless Networking Adapter? What will it do for me and how much does a good one cost?

a wireless network adapter is used when you have a wireless router. they cost around 100 (i think)
your better off using a wired connection (Ethernet cable) since they are much cheaper and faster.
did you always have this problem or is it a recent thing? there might be a problem with the cable your using, router settings or modem

I am a bit of a novice at networking and need to find the destination IP addresses or computer names of the ports on my various switches.

How can I do this without following a wire and looking on the computer itself?

I am an advanced user, so i can use DOS, Telnet etc. but I just need to know where to go or how to do it.

Shouldn’t you be able to do it from command?

If you type:

ipconfig /all

Try that.

Also, try this:

netstat

You can get more info about them by typing

netstat /?
OR
ipconfig /?

so i did some research on my router and found out xbox live doesnt work on it!! wireless or ethernet cable! is this true or does anyone else have this router and are able to connect into xbox with it?

I had the same problem with my wireless router when I got my xbox 360 2 weeks ago but the I made a few phone calls and all you got to do is lower the firewall on the router and hey presto your up and running hope I helped

i am familiar with networking jargon but i do not know how they work. Is there a possibility of creating a network simulation environment so that i can experiment with routers, hubs, switches and other network devices . Or can you reccomend a better way of learning about these devices. Also i d like to learn to design a network from scratch without needing to buy all these equipment.

if you have interest in networking go for ccna but this days redhat is emerging field.and its demand is more than cisco.so i prefer to red hat certification.remember ccna is deveoped field and redhat is developing

LinkedIn. I don’t use any other site and while I am aware of several others, am not inclined to start. It’s a practical thing – with over 16 million accounts, it is ten times larger than anyone else. I have only so much time available, and I’m going to invest it in one network.

Sorry for the vague heading. My issue is that on my sister’s dell studio laptop we can’t fully Connect her to the internet. On my Asus Laptop it connects with my
D-Link 624+ router perfectly. However, on hers it just says, "Unidentified (D-link Network) and is "local".
And in the browser nothing happens. I’m new to networking so any tips would be fantastic

go to run type cmd (dos mode) then type ipconfig this will show your ip address if it does not talk to your isp if it does type ping then your ip address then return this will tell you if your nic is talking to your router. Sounds like you need another NIC.
