How often do you stay up late and participate in social networking via the internet?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in internet networking | 11 Comments »

I am just curious. Tonight I am up very late. Its 4 in the morning. I have had loads of work to do so just got on with it. For the last 45 minutes though I have done nothing but social networking, even though its late and I am tired.

How many of you Yahoo members stay up this late and how often in the week or month do you stay up to network?

Me too. I just love these moments alone to answer a few questions, maybe ask one or two and send some mails. It helps me chill a lot and late nights are so quiet. I love it :) The only sounds are a ticking clock at 4.30am, my laptop keys, the hum of a refrigerator. Very nice!

Can a desktop computer get wireless internet without wireless networking?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in wireless networking | 2 Comments »

I just ordered a desktop online. After ordering I realized that it has no wireless networking. First off, what does this mean? I was hoping to have it in my room, but if that means no wireless connection, I guess it’s in the living room. :/ How could I, if possible, get a wireless connection to my room? Router?

Assuming you have wireless in the house, you need a wireless adapter for the computer. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Linksys-WMP54G-Wireless-G-54Mbps-PCI-Desktop-Adapter/2470730

what is the difference between a hub and a switch in networking?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in networking switch | 4 Comments »

Hubs:

A ‘hub’ is a piece of network equipment that connects PCs together. We may also refer it as a multi-port repeater. This type of device simply passes on (repeats) all the information it receives, so that all devices connected to its ports receive that information.

Switches

It control the flow of network traffic based on the address information in each packet. A switch learns which devices are connected to its ports and then forwards on packets to the appropriate port. It helps to improve bandwith.

Switches and hubs are often used in the same network; the hubs extend the network by providing more ports, and the switches divide the network into smaller, less congested sections.

Hope this answers your question.

Which online college would be good for bachelors in computer networking?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in computer networking | 3 Comments »

I need help trying to find a good online college to get my Bachelors in computer networking or computer programming and its hard to choose a college that will work with me as i have a learning disability. I was considering university of phoenix or kaplan university, but i know there are alot of online colleges and all your opinions will be accepted thank in advance

A friend of mine is going to University of Phoenix for computer IT and another is going to Kaplan to become a teacher. They both seem like decent enough online school. In some ways their classes are more focused then mine and I attend a local college. I would recommend University of Phoenix. They are the largest and most well know from my understanding.

How do I make my limewire tunes not show up in my families’ computers through networking?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in networking computers | 1 Comment »

Well, our computers are not really networked, but they can pick up each other’s limewire tunes.
My sister an I both use it and my parents and brother don’t know. I don’t wanna be caught one day because it networks with my dad’s computer and shows up on his itunes. Is there a way to stop it from doing this??

You know, I really thought that when different people set up different user names on the same computer/network that they were protected by password.

If it turns out they are not, on mutual home network, be sure and come back and tell us. This could be very disturbing. What could possibly be even more disturbing is if you saw your dad’s limewire tunes, whoooah………………….

What is the actual meaning of networking when referred to in myspace during profile setup?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in networking | 1 Comment »

My question is concerning a possible hidden meaning when you say networking. Not the text book definition of the term.

Networking is when you meet people through people.

This was usually associated with the work world.
Example: You would network in college, and then it usually payed off when you began to work. A person you met through networking gets you into a nice job, instead of starting out of the bottom.

what is the differences between link and networking?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in links and networking | 1 Comment »

in computer and internet term what is the differences between link and networking

A link is simply a connection between two points: This could be a satellite link, a Microwave link, a switch link (connected to the network), etc. Communications systems (which include standard PCs) require a link between it and something else before they can pass information.

Networking is actually sharing information between different computers. This can be between two PCs or something as broad as the Internet. So, the act of passing information and sharing it between systems is networking.

Are A+ and N+ certificates good enough for a ‘Hardware & networking’ job?

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin in networking hardware | 1 Comment »

Suppose someone has done 12th commerce. With no previous basic knowledge of electronics and computer hardware. And wants to get a decent job in the IT(Hardware & Networking) field, will the above certificates fetch him a good job, I mean an entry level job paying a respectable salary? Or will he have to get Cisco certfication before looking out for a job?

Honestly, without experience, its going to be tough to apply and receive an IT job based only on Certs.

When it comes to an IT Position, here’s what a competent employer is going to be looking for (assuming you don’t know anyone… ie buddy system):

1. Experience
2. Experience
3. Experience
4. Certs
5. Relevant higher education (Bachelors and up).

That’s my two cents.
